It was a very proud moment for Kate Ford and our team here at Linda McCartney Foods as the first of the competition winning mushroom and ale pies came off our production line last week.
We were delighted that Kate was able to meet our production team and take a tour of our meat free site and of course taste her delicious pie. Our Development Chef Richard said “Kate’s pie stood out from the first tasting and the whole team loved the recipe. It was also Paul’s favourite and this was reflected when the public voted for Kate’s recipe”.
Kate said “It’s been a fantastic experience to come here and the pie has come out as I hoped it would. I’ve been a vegetarian since I was eight and wanted to create something a bit different that would appeal to both vegetarians and people who eat meat. The ale is something you wouldn’t usually get in a vegetarian dish”.
Sir Paul McCartney has said how much he’s looking forward to trying the pie “I am thrilled to support this great competition which has continued Linda’s passion to create delicious home cooked and meat free food. Kate’s ‘Mushroom & Ale Pie’ is a worthy winner and includes all the values Linda cherished – I can’t wait to try it myself.”
The pies will be on sale in Sainsbury’s from 8th of August.

Here are a few shots from our recent photo shoot with Kate Ford's prize-winning dish. Who'd have thought a Hearty Ale and Mushroom Pie could be so photogenic!

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.
In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Paul & Mary
visit the Fakenham factory
Paul and Mary recently
made a return visit to the Linda
McCartney factory in Fakenham. “It’s
great to be back” said Paul.
Their last visit had been with
Linda years earlier and the return
brought back many happy memories.
Donned in Health & Safety gear, Paul and Mary enjoyed wandering
around the facility chatting to workers on the assembly line.
They were amazed to see all of the changes and how the operation
works on a day to day basis.
With much amusement they joined in the assembly line and placed
sheets of free-range egg pasta on top of the lasagne. “It
was certainly harder than I thought . . . but I managed it” Paul
said, managing not to drop any pasta. “However, later
they told me that they’d put the line on half speed especially
for us!”
Not only did Paul and Mary participate on the factory floor
they also discussed exciting new plans for the future of the
brand.
“We had a great day, thanks to everyone!”

You can’t beat the homemade taste of our new Sausage Rolls
Linda McCartney Sausage Rolls are the latest
addition to our range of delicious, wholesome foods. They
are the perfect hearty seasonal meal or snack – a tasty
and warming treat to help you through the coldest days.
These flavourful Sausage Rolls have been made to a carefully developed recipe
that ensures a truly satisfying and home-cooked taste: A Cumberland-style vegetarian
sausage, flavoured with onions and a pinch of seasoning is wrapped in light,
crumbling, flaky pastry.
This hearty classic is best served piping hot from the oven – either alone
or accompanied by some homemade chutney. Alternatively, they work just as well
as a light meal - perhaps with lightly seasoned potato wedges and a side of fresh
butter beans for a really comforting dinner to share with friends and family.
Our vegetarian Sausage Rolls are a convenient solution, a handy standby for any
kitchen and a perfect addition to the party buffet. They are quick to bake and
simple to serve but offer all the flavour and taste of an irresistible home-baked
classic dish.
We pride ourselves on using the best wholesome and natural ingredients in each
of our products. Our latest recipes reflect Linda’s original product and
keep true to the spirit and ethos that she instilled into the range.
